Our Story
Established in 1928, the Angleton Fire Department (AFD) has been a cornerstone of public safety in Angleton, Texas, for nearly a century. From its earliest days, AFD has been committed to protecting both the city and its surrounding areas—covering over 125 square miles of community, farmland, and industry. Built on a foundation of service and volunteerism, the department has grown alongside Angleton itself.

What began as a small group of dedicated volunteers has evolved into a well-equipped, professionally trained fire department. Today, AFD responds to around 1,000 emergency calls each year, including structure fires, vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, and more. Since 2016, AFD has transitioned from an entirely volunteer-based department to a combination model, consisting of 37 volunteers, 5 TCFP-certified duty crew members, and 1 administrative staff. We proudly note that every member of our career duty crew began as a volunteer with The Angleton Volunteer Fire Department. The team remains ready to serve our community, day or night, rain or shine—just as it always has throughout our history.

AFD’s commitment goes beyond emergency response. The department stays actively involved in the life of the community—supporting local causes, hosting outreach events, and showing up wherever they’re needed. From fire safety education to local fundraisers, Angleton’s firefighters are proud to serve in every sense of the word.

With nearly a century of service behind them, the Angleton Fire Department continues to carry forward its legacy of dedication, professionalism, and heart. The mission is simple, but powerful: to answer the call and protect the people of Angleton—now and for generations to come.
